Scientific Session 1
FULL AND PARTIAL REHABILITATIONS FOLLOWING THE IMMEDIATE FUNCTION CONCEPT – SURGICAL AND PROSTHETIC CONSIDERATIONS - Dr. Paulo MALO (Portugal)
Several treatment plan options will be covered from single to full rehabilitation during this lecture. The implant-supported rehabilitation of the maxilla posterior region represents a challenge for clinicians, in partial cases, as in total cases, due to its anatomical limitations, such as, maxillary sinus pneumatisation or low bone density, maximized by the high functional loads bared by this region. Rehabilitations using tilted implants reduce the need for bone transplant, allowing for the use of longer implants - anchored in areas of denser bone with higher primary stability - and providing for immediate loading and reduction of the prosthetic cantilever.
A fixed prosthesis is the best treatment option for the edentulous patient and those facing the immanent loss of their remaining dentition. Through innovation, along with continuous clinical and scientific research, it has become possible to treat virtually every edentulous case with a highly functional and esthetic fixed solution, increasing the quality of life for these patients. The MALO CLINIC protocol for totally edentulous rehabilitation has allowed thousands of clinicians around the world to achieve this essential goal for their patients.
The oral rehabilitation of these patients has two stages: surgical and prosthetic. The surgical protocol follows the All-on-4 Concept - an innovative technique developed in the early 90’s at MALO CLINIC that allows for immediate function, full-arch, implant supported prosthetics. This widely applicable surgical protocol allows for a simple and immediate rehabilitation with a provisional bridge fixed on 4 implants, with minimum cantilevers, 3-4 hours after the surgery.
The final prosthodontic work is of extreme importance. MALO CLINIC prosthetic protocol - MALO CLINIC Bridge - was developed to give a high aesthetic, precise and consistent result, following a simple clinical and technical procedure. The MALO CLINIC Ceramic Bridge represents the most technologically and aesthetically advanced form of fixed prosthesis for the fully edentulous patient. This prosthesis is the epitome of biomedical engineering combined with NobelProcera CAD\CAM technology to provide patients with precision implant supported functional replication of the natural dentition.
By adhering to these protocols, one can offer more patients a fixed, implant supported solution that is highly successful, while minimizing the risks and the need for multiple procedures that are often necessary with other implant techniques used for full-arch implant reconstruction. Additionally, clinical research today indicates without a doubt that using the immediate function protocol gives a high cumulative success rate.
